Barnardos would like to extend a very Happy Christmas to all and all the very best for 2022. 

Barnardos had a very busy year in the Post Adoption Service with some particular highlights - the extension of their support service to birth mothers and adopted adults to Cork and the completion of the evaluation of their Post Adoption children’s service by Queens University Belfast. Below are some updates about upcoming workshops and courses with Barnardos Post Adoption Service. 

For Adoptive Parents

Barnardos are delighted to announce that they will be running the Circle of Security parenting course again especially for adoptive parents, starting in February. There are two courses scheduled - one in person in Dublin (for parents of 7-11 year olds) and one online (for parents of 0-6 year olds).

Barnrdos now have trained facilitators (Celine and Tara) of this long established and evidence-based parenting course on both the Dublin and Cork teams. They ran the course twice online in 2021 and it was very successful.

For Adopted Children

Barnardos are also delighted to announce a new four session workshop for children called Cool at School – starting on 17th February in Dublin. The group is aimed at children aged 11-13 years of age, who may be experiencing worries or anxiety in the school setting. Some may need support with the transition to secondary school. Places will be very limited

For Birth Mothers

Barnardos will be running their six session course for birthmothers again in 2022 – as well as stand-alone support meetings. Dates will be confirmed shortly. 

For Adopted Adults

Barnardos will be running their four session course for adopted adults “Exploring Adoption” in 2022 – as well as stand alone support meetings. Dates will be confirmed shortly.

Their three Post Adoption Centres are closing from 23rd December and will reopen after Christmas on Tuesday 4th January. They will be available to take any calls and respond to emails after that.
